Environmental and Social Sustainability Report

The following Statement is reflective of BlueGhost’s internal processes and every member of its staff is both in knowledge of and following such approach. The described procedures are reviewed by Blueghost’s leadership and summarized yearly in order to elaborate and incentivize adherence to this Statement. Our managerial objective is to put a sustained effort to commit to international standards and best practices of policies following environmental and social sustainability objectives. This statement, thus, serves as (i) a summary of the actions that are set and performed within the company and (ii) an official reference for both our clients and the broader public, as well as for possible scrutiny from committees awarding quality assurance processes such as ISO.

This Statement serves also as a guideline for BlueGhost’s method of approaching work, which adopts an agile method SCRUM for directing and managing projects. BlueGhost’s project management and its staff thus, whilst exploiting the benefits of SCRUM, directly reciprocate the environmental objectives set out in this Statement, including direct staff responsibilities of adherence to the Statement within each team and procedural routines.

The implementation of the Statement begins by means of the actions specified, as BlueGhost’s staff and workspaces are accustomed to the described processes. On top of those activities we also include internal workshops, information seminars and know-how sharing across all managerial levels. In those, official environmental practices are recognized and followed (i.e. waste sorting). The procedures are also underpinned within BlueGhost’s internal database of processes (custom intranet system).

The scope of the processes regards all the internal daily activities of BlueGhost’s staff. Moreover, some to all of the processes are offered and, upon mutual agreement, applied by our clients, thus creating a rippling effect of our environmental and social sustainability standards.

The scope of the environmental and social sustainability management system includes:

  • 30 people working at BlueGhost, fully involved in the above described framework
  • clients of BlueGhost: informed and / or implementing the framework
  • contractors working with BlueGhost: informed of the framework
  • event attendees and people entering our premises: informed of the framework
  • general public and people following our work: informed of the framework

Examples of the implemented actions are as follows (but not limited to):

  • Paper, plastic and waste collection management
  • Waste sorting across all our workspaces (individual and shared)
  • Purchase of more environmentally friendly cleaning products
  • Reduction of the environmental impact of staff commuting to work
  • Information and trainings on internal processes adhering to the document
  • Informing event participants on this initiative and its sustainable principles
  • Use and offer of use of environmentally friendly initiatives (car-pooling, bike infrastructure, on-line documentation, useful forms)
  • Limits (previously accorded) to quantities of brochures and other printed documents in order to avoid wasting paper
  • Key focus to design outputs with actual functionality (avoidance of overproducing useless gadgets, prioritizing more environmentally friendly communication)
  • Ever-updated online managerial tools that alleviate less environmentally friendly options, such as standardized used of video-meetings
  • Trainings for new members of staff with safety rules and correct handling of the equipment and products to be used
  • Zero tolerance of discrimination of any kind
  • Adherence to public policies that support social sustainability
  • Lead-by-example by active membership in diverse supplier groups such as Google Partner, Czech Union of Graphic Design, Domain Cube, UX Association and Qualified Supplier of Public Procurement

The above indicated actions are a trend that BlueGhost intend to follow in 2020, all aimed to achieve a lesser environmental footprint. Overall, BlueGhost actively focuses on lower energy and material consumption for its working processes, whilst also offering good practices in designing more sustainable friendly products and services. This effort is conceived as a process of continuous improvement, which is publicly reflected through this document.
